The engagement and involvement of our parents and carers in the life of St Joseph’s Primary school in Bulahdelah is critical to ensuring we achieve the best outcomes for our children.
Historically, one of the ways we have partnered together is through a Parents and Friends Association (P & F Association). Currently the parent body at St Joseph’s is relatively informal, allowing parents and carers to help when they are able. This has been clearly evident in fundraising activities such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls which were a great success. We have several other fundraisers including a pie drive, a colour run and a disco which involved both parents, carers and staff.
The Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the postponement of all non-essential meetings, including P & F meetings. As such, we are unable to call a meeting to talk about our community preferences for future parent engagement structures. One possible opportunity could be the establishment of a Parent Engagement Group which will provide an opportunity to come together as a community as required (perhaps once a term) without the formalities and strict requirements of a formal P&F Association.
As soon as possible, the school will be holding a meeting and encourage all parents and carers to attend to have a conversation about pathways forward to create new and meaningful approaches to engagement at St Joseph’s Bulahdelah.
This meeting will be on Wednesday March 30 to coincide with our "Welcome Back" Community Night from 5-7pm.
